Today, I’m reviewing the Cantu curl cream which I purchased from from my local target. I’ll go through the pros and cons I found when using this curl cream on my curly hair.
About my Curls
First off, a little about my hair: I have 3b curls that are mostly medium porosity with high porosity ends. I’m not sure why my ends are as porous but guessing it is from older hair dye and sun exposure. Due to this, I tend to search for more moisture and heavier creams or butters to calm my frizzy ends. I found the Cantu coconut curl cream to be thick enough to protect my ends but still easy to spread. A little goes a long way; on the contrary, applying too much can create product build up with this curl cream.
Styling Results
After styling with the Cantu curl cream on numerous occasions, I feel it works best on its own as it is a pretty thick product and gives really good hold. Undoubtably, mixing it with gel or mousse would be over kill as I get a pretty hard cast from diffusing alone. I prefer how it comes out when I diffuse in lieu of air drying because:
a) I get more volume diffusing upside down and to the sides
b) it dries much faster than air drying as this product seems to keep the hair wet longer.
Of course, It still looks great air dried but if I am able to blow dry then it’s just better so I’m not sneezing with wet hair for hours.
Refreshing with the Cantu curl cream
For second day hair, I just use water to get the frizzier sections tamed. For third day and beyond, I’ll use a tiny bit of the Cantu coconut curl cream after spraying my curls down with water. Thus, I don’t want to use too much for build up so mainly water is needed for refreshing and detangling. Subsequently, add a little bit of oil to ends after misting if they aren’t frizzy enough to need to use more of the Cantu curl cream.
My Final Rating
Above all, I really enjoy using this product as a one and done item because I’ve become a lot busier in my new job. It lasts longer before I need to rewash and is set at an affordable price ($6-7). In brief, I give it 4 1/2 out of 5 stars only losing half a star due to of the flaking that may happen when more product is added at the roots.
