Sunscreens for Acne Prone Skin

Sunscreens for Acne Prone Skin

Since we’re all outside more and in the heat during the summer, I am sharing my favorite sunscreens for acne. I have acne prone combination skin and I am especially prone to clogged pores from sunscreen. I still wear sunscreen to protect my skin but am picky. Here are my current favorite sunscreens that don’t cause me to break out.

Daily Facial Sunscreens for Acne

Coola Sun Silk Drops and Krave the Beet Shield

I use either the Coola Sun Silk Drops (affiliate link) or Krave Beauty the Beet Shield on my face. Coola sun silk drops SPF 30 and Krave beet shield SPF 50 are light-weight and don’t leave my face feeling greasy. The Coola feels a lot like a serum and the Krave feels more like a primer. I like that they both feel like skincare products as I layer them on as the last step in the morning. My golden tan complexion usually gets a white cast from sunscreen that makes me look ghostly. Thankfully these work great and have NO white cast. The Krave sunscreen is an antioxidant fluid instead of a sunscreen in the US; so you can’t use a HSA card to purchase it.

Coola Liplux SPF 30 in skinny dip

I’ve also been using the Coola Liplux tinted SPF 30 lip balm (affiliate link). It isn’t the smoothest lip balm, but it does have SPF that is reef safe and tastes good.

Sunscreens for Acne: Great for Exercise

Coola Classic Sunscreen Spray SPF 70 great for acne prone skin

For outdoor exercise like running, jogging, walking, or even weigh lifting, I prefer to use a spray on sunscreen. It is simple to spray it on wherever my skin shows. I’m often in a rush to fit in a workout and don’t want the hassle of rubbing lotion in. I love the Coola SPF 70 Body Spray (affiliate link) sunscreen because the protection is great and its easy to apply. Also, I love the peach scent of the Coola spray! It stays on while sweating but I haven’t tested it swimming yet.

Best Swimming Sunscreen: acne safe

La Roche-Posay Anthelios 60 melt in milk sunscreen for acne prone skin

I prefer a sunscreen lotion when swimming because I want to make sure it adheres to well to my skin. My favorite sunscreen for swimming is the La Roche-Posay Anthelios Melt-In Milk Sunscreen SPF 60 (affiliate link) because it is made for face and body so it doesn’t clog pores. While I love light weight sunscreens for everyday wear, swimming in a pool or ocean requires something a tad heavier. The La Roche-Posay Anthelios adheres well to my skin but it doesn’t feel as thick; like a lot of other sunscreens for acne prone skin. It is on the pricer side but well worth it. I don’t break out or get that silly white cast when using it.

Bug Sunscreen (Fishing or BBQ)

Avon Skin So Soft Bug Guard Plus SPF 30 lotion and spray

My favorite sunscreen with insect repellant is the Avon SPF 30 Bug Guard Plus line. I love it because it repels against mosquitoes and noseeums which are the absolute devil of bugs! I like to use the lotion first and reapply the spray if I’m out fishing, at a barbecue, or gardening. The lotion does separate from the repellant so be sure to shake it up before use. I also use the spray in the late afternoon when I walk June because unfortunately, the mosquitoes love me.
