In efforts to be more consistent with using skin care products, I have finally narrowed down a night time skincare routine that works well for me. I’m still working on finding the best combination of morning products; therefore, I’ll update you all on that in a future post (here is my previous day time moisturizer if you are looking for a gentle cream). Keep reading for my preferred night time skincare routine for my combination acne prone skin.
Night time Eyes
For my eyes, I mainly use the Biossance Squalane + Marine Algae Eye Cream because it’s moisturizing and hasn’t caused milia under or on my eyelids. If I have milia from trying out other products, I like to use the Cleopatra’s Choice gopure retinol serum on my eyelids. Since this retinol has other ingredients, I typically use it alone. I will update this post if I find using it under the Biossance eye cream to be more beneficial.
Night time routine: Moisturizer
For most nights, I enjoy using the Laneige Cica Sleeping Mask. It is formulated for sensitive skin and doesn’t break me out in pimples. I like it because its thick enough to stay on my face even though I toss and turn at night. I wake up with hydrated skin when ever I use this and no flakiness near my mouth or between my eyebrows.
If I am having a reaction to something (new product, pollen, food), I like to use my Krave Oat so Simple Water Cream as a moisturizer instead. It isn’t as moisturizing as the sleeping mask but it is cooling which helps itchy hives. Since it isn’t as moisturizing for the drier areas, I’ll put the Biossance squalane and marine algae eye cream around my lips so that they aren’t flaky when I wake up.
Night Lip Care
I used to just use any lip balm I had lying around at night to moisturize my lips. Now, I use the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask because it stays on all night and smells delicious. I have two flavors from their P.S. I still Love you limited edition kit. The one I’m currently using is the sweet candy scent. I like how soft my lips are when I wake up. I try to make sure my lips are moist before applying. Sometimes I just sip water and let a little get on my lips. This helps ensure it is locking in water while I sleep.
Night time skincare routine: Treatments (as needed)
I try to use The Ordinary AHA 30% BHA 2% peeling solution once a month. It is very strong so the max I leave it on for is about 8 minutes. I’m considering using it once a week at 3-5 minute increments but I’m really bad about remembering. I’ll update you all if I end up using it more often and see results.
If I have red pimples or white heads I will spot treat them with Clean and Clear Advantage acne spot treatment (affiliate link) 2% salicylic acid. I use the Neutrogena Stubborn Acne Spot Gel 5 % benzol peroxide (affiliate link) occasionally; it is very drying so I don’t reach for it unless the salicylic acid didn’t work.
Let me know if you use any of these night time skincare products and if you found this post helpful!
