Garnier Olia in Medium Blonde

Garnier Olia in Medium Blonde 8.0 package
The last time I dyed my roots with the Garnier Ultra Color in shade Golden Brown, it did not come out as light as it did the previous times that I used it. Therefore, I decided to try the new Garnier Olia in shade 8.0 Medium Blonde.

I picked up the Medium Blonde shade since this color is not specifically formulated for dark hair. I have read from Allure magazine that this is a great at home color due to its use of sunflower oil and a color formula that doesn’t need to open the hair cuticle much to penetrate it. All this means is that it should be less damaging and provide great moisture.

Above: Developer, Colorant, Applicator Tip, Applicator Mixing Container, and one Pair of Black Gloves (Also contains a Conditioner that is not pictured). The gloves provided are of a better quality than other Garnier color products. My mom normally switches them out for her own medical gloves, but these were thicker and didn’t tear.

I was extremely impressed with this product’s ability to lighten my dark hair. When you wash it out of your hair, it will feel dry and tangled as is with any hair color, but the conditioner provided is amazing and will hydrate your hair better than before you dyed it.

After washing out and conditioning my hair, I used the Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie for added moisture but it probably wasn’t even necessary! My hair did feel thinner after the first wash but my curls were smooth and defined from that God sent conditioner. I really wish they would sell this conditioner on its own but hair companies are odd.
The only gripe is that for a pricier hair dye, there should be more provided in the box. While it was enough for my roots, I didn’t have enough left over to help blend it in with the rest of my hair. I have really thick curly hair so that may be part of the issue but I definitely suggest buying two if not three boxes if you are coloring the whole length of your hair. Best part of this product is I still have some conditioner left over to use the next time I wash my hair.

  1. Just did, if you have very black hair, and it's African American or biracial hair, start off at 45 minutes, then add time. The 9.03 light per blonde worked for me.a nice golden blonde in most places, other places a darker version of the blonde, but very beautiful, in low light it looks golden brown, in sunlight, fluorescent light or the flash of a camera, it's a shiny golden blonde.if you have a lot of hair use 2 boxes, my hair is short, 4 inches but very thick, 2 boxes is what I just used.

  2. Just finished, sadly this won't let me upload a pic of my hair, it looks wonderful, some areas darker then some, but it's a beautiful golden blonde, other areas a little darker blonde. I uploaded 2 pics of my hair to my facebook just now. When my hair gets longer I'll use the 9.03 light per blonde, it tool 1 hour, and is super soft.smells stronger then the medium blonde tho.

  3. I haven't used it yet, tried the medium blonde last week, I have Virgin hair, and am waiting a few weeks before I dye it again, if it is orangish I'll use a toner shampoo. Rite now don't care, I'm only lightening it so when my hair grows out I'll have 2 tome hair.

  4. Ohhh ok that would explain it because your hair probably isn't as porous as mine so it is more resistant to dye. Mine is really dark brown but not black too. Ok just let me know =)

  5. My grandma recently told me I have some Indian in my from my great grandpa, she said that is most likely the reason I always have issues lightening my hair. I'm waiting a few weeks before I use this new dye. I bought 9.03 light per blonde. It's their new blonde, bought 2 boxes since it was still on sale, I'll be able to saturate my hair very well this time, also bought a sulfate free conditioner so I can have more. My hair is softer tho. So that's a plus. When I dye it I'll let you know how well it takes. My hair is narutal pure black, even in bright light is barely any brown showing.

  6. Sadly it didn't take, even after leaving it in a while longer, got brown is some areas. But my hair did feel amazing after. I'm gonna buy a fee boxes of the lighter ones today (since it's still on sale) I think it didn't take because my hair is so thick, didn't get an actual lather. It wasn't covered well. That is why I'm gonna get 2 boxes tomorrow. Hopefully it works. I did trim my ends afterward. Do I doubt I'll do damage.

  7. I'm so happy my video of help! I recently used the Garnier Olia in shade 8 1/2 pearl blonde and I liked that one too. I think as long as you stay in the 8 range it will work well. Let me know how it comes out =)

  8. Because of your video I just bought it today, had been looking for a dye that would lighten my hair with no damage, I have been natural for a bit over 5 months, my hair is about 5 inches, so I bought 1 box.I figure lightening now, I won't need 2 boxes when my hair hits 12 inches. Rite now till I get the legnth I want I braid my hair and wear a wig when I go out, or just wear the briads, to keep my hair protected. I had watched over a dozen videos that day on hair lightening for curly hair, and yours was the best one. It looked beautiful, and healthy. That is what I want! So thank you sooooo much! I plan on doing it tonight or tomorrow.

  9. It may not get as light if your hair is naturally black and the strands are thick because it may be more resistant to color. This still worked great on my hair and my natural color is dark brown. I have some strands that are thicker than others and those didn't get as light.
