Curly Hair Color Routine using Garnier Olia

Curly Hair Color Routine

It’s been three months since the last time I dyed my hair. I’m long overdue to touch up the roots as my natural dark brown hair is a few inches long. I’ve been transitioning my hair to a darker color. Therefore, my curly hair color routine starts with Garnier Olia dark blonde 7.0 (affiliate link) instead of the medium blonde 8.0 shade I was previously using.

My Hair Color Steps

I created a video showing my curly hair color routine step by step using Garnier Olia dark blonde. Here are the steps listed:

  1. Part hair down the middle and detangle hair with a gentle brush; I use the Wet shower detangling brush (affiliate link).
  2. Pierce colorant with pointed cap. Then add to developer in applicator bottle and shake thoroughly.
  3. Put on gloves and break of tip of the applicator bottle.
  4. Start applying dye down your middle part, and around the perimeter of your hair.
  5. Use applicator brush (affiliate link) to spread out the dye. Make sure the area is moist and covered before moving on to a new area.
  6. Divide hair in four parts and apply dye section by section. Tying hair back that you are not working on.
  7. Continue to use applicator brush to spread hair color and avoid getting dye on previously dyed hair.
  8. Once you are done with all sections, tie hair up in four buns and let it sit for 25 – 30 minutes.
  9. Rinse hair color out and apply a blue or purple shampoo to freshly dyed hair only. Let it sit for 5 minutes. I use the Matrix Brass Off shampoo (affiliate link).
  10. Apply the Garnier Olia conditioner to the lengths of your hair (Where there is no shampoo, basically, the hair you didn’t dye).
  11. Detangle your hair while conditioner is sitting.
  12. Rinse out shampoo and conditioner then apply normal curly hair styling products in the shower. I use DevaCurl Super Cream (affiliate link) and DevaCurl Arc Angel (affiliate link).
  13. Put up hair in microfiber turban for 10 minutes.
  14. Take hair out of towel turban and air dry.

    1. I have used the ash blonde in the past but it is really hard to find the shade in stores. They used to have a pearl blonde shade that I think was similar but I don’t see that one anymore either. I’ll try checking online to see if they still make it.
